How to send money to an Alipay ID in China

OrbitRemit has partnered with Alipay to offer fast, cost-effective transfers to China. All you need is your recipient's Alipay ID — no Chinese bank account details required.

What you'll need before you start

• Your recipient's Alipay ID (their registered mobile number or email address)
• Your recipient's full name as registered on their Alipay account

Steps to send to an Alipay ID

1. Log in to your OrbitRemit account at orbitremit.com.
2. Select CNY as the receiving currency in the calculator and enter the amount.
3. Select Receive method > Mobile Wallet > Alipay.
4. Enter your recipient's full name and their Alipay ID (mobile number or email address).
5. Select the purpose of your transfer.
6. Review the details and pay for your transfer.
7. Let your recipient know to look out for a push notification from Alipay — they'll need to take action to receive the funds.

Does my recipient need to do anything?

Yes. If your recipient hasn't received an international remittance via Alipay before, they'll need to complete a one-time setup. Alipay will send them a notification with instructions.

Your recipient has 48 hours to complete the steps below before the transfer expires:

1. Log in to the Alipay app and complete real-name authentication.
2. Open the Global Remittance mini app within Alipay and link a Chinese bank card to their Alipay ID.

Important: Alipay transfers are only available to recipients who hold a Chinese Mainland Resident Identity Card and have completed real-name authentication in the Alipay app.

Transfer limits

Can I send to a business Alipay account?

No. Alipay transfers through OrbitRemit are for personal transfers only — from one individual to another. You cannot send to a business Alipay account, and OrbitRemit business accounts cannot be used to send via Alipay.
